Complaints about tripadvisor.com

Barbara of Cobano, puntarenas, Costa Rica September 1, 2010
I'm the owner of a vacation rental for about 3 years now, and as every hotel in the area (or most of them), we have a FREE listing in this website. As you may have heard, they say to have privacy policies that they DO NOT have a need to let us know which ones are, about deciding when a review stays or not posted. In my case, I didn't care about reviews for a while, or kind of forgot about them, but recently I started asking my guests to post a comment there...
As many of them where doing it, I was able to see them appear and suddenly leave, few days to a week later. This happened 7 times in the last month, and twice in 2 cases (they reposted the review and it was taken again). I sent many mails to Tripadvisor's owner's support, and I always got a pre written mail, saying that the guests did not answer a confirmation mail, that basically they never received.
I mail them many times, until they stopped to write back. I even called the New Business Listings, where they offer to charge 40 per month to display contact info and another stuff, I explain them that even ifthey are the best way to get promoted, I was not going to give them money for this kind of support or attention, that I could not trust them since they would not tell me what was going on. I got the "policies speech" again, like somebody was reading it to me.
I personally had it with this website, but travelers don't know about this SCAM, there should be a way to show to the public all the chain of lies they are working on. All of my reviews are and where excellent, I think that is what they do not like about it, they can't destroy as with horrible reviews and they can't get money from us, so we are not good for them. Is this possible? can they really do this without nobody punishing them or putting a huge fine for manipulating the reality? Please let me know what to do, we are a small family owned business, and we cannot deal with this kind of things. Thanks

I agree with the post that Trip Advisor has a bias with their paying sponsors and could care less about non paying hotels. I have tried to get them to remove old posts that have no relevence after 7-8 years. I know of guests that have psoted positive comments about their stay with us that report that the posts "disappearead" after a short period of time.
They seem to thrive on any negative posts and the most incredible part about their posts is they don't verify that a guest posting a comment has ever stayed at the property they are posting about. Could be a disgrunteled employee or competetor. Some people actually take their site literally and will not make a reservation after reading negative posts.

Tripadvisor.com shows a prevailing bias towards hotels and/or attractions from which they benefit. We have been told by consumers more than once that their reviews on tripadvisor.com are NOT published based on the content they provide. For example, if you are a hotel that pays, or advertises with tripadvisor.com they are less prone to post negatvie reviews. On the other hand, and we've gotten lots of complaints from consumers who have posted favorable reviews, but the reviews are not posted if they compete with another hotel attraction that advertises with tripadvisor.com Really, there are enough complaints to launch a class action suit.

I am the owner of Beach Cove hotel .My hotel is located in Boothbay Harbor Maine but mailing address is a P.O.Box in West Boothbay Harbor,ME. Trip advisor keeps my reviews in West Boothbay Harbor section on their web site when I asked them many times to place my reviews in Boothbay Harbor section. They ignore it. But they keep Ocean Gate Resort that is Located in South Port Island absolutely different town in Boothbay Harbor section . One hotel owner told me that it is happened because they are connected with some famos reservation web sites and Ocean Gate resort has direct contract with them.
